The Merchant Marine Academy released a policy last month about transgenderism.

The policy makes comprehensive provisions to accommodate transgenderism.
“The transgender policy is ironic, especially at the Merchant Marine Academy, because it allows a man or woman to receive a tax-payer funded education and then to be released after ‘transitioning,’ because they are not deployable,” said Dr. Ron Scott, Colonel, USAF (Ret.), President and CEO of STARRS (Stand Together Against Racism and Radicalism in the Services, Inc).
“The policy apparently aligns with one issued by the Department of the Navy in June,” he said.

Dr. Kaltiala is concerned about the dangerous trajectory:
“Medical organizations are supposed to transcend politics in favor of upholding standards that protect patients. However, in the U.S. these groups—including the American Academy of Pediatrics—have been actively hostile to the message my colleagues and I are urging.”

Elaine Donnelly, President of the Center for Military Readiness (CMR), recently addressed the transgender policy in a February 2023 published analysis paper.

This analysis by Donnelly documents what was predicted in a 2009 letter signed by over a thousand retired generals and admirals.
“Our past experience as military leaders leads us to be greatly concerned about the impact of repeal on morale, discipline, unit cohesion, and overall military readiness. We believe that imposing this burden on our men and women in uniform would undermine recruiting and retention, impact leadership at all echelons, have adverse effects on the willingness of parents who lend their sons and daughters to military service, and eventually break the All-Volunteer Force.”

Reflecting on these developments, Lt. Gen. Rod Bishop, USAF (Ret.) STARRS Chairman of the Board said, “I was inspired by the courage of these fellow senior officers to speak out in 2009 on a matter that affects our national security. Now, 14 years later, with serious recruiting and readiness issues, STARRS and other organizations working to sustain our military readiness could use their help, support, and leadership more than ever.”
Donnelly noted that, “two sections in the pending NDAA, H. R. 2670 would address the consequences of irreversible treatments for gender dysphoria: BILLS-118hr2670rds.pdf (congress.gov).
In particular, H. Sec. 717 would prohibit TRICARE from covering and the Department of Defense from furnishing sex reassignment surgeries and gender hormone treatments for transgender individuals.
H. Sec. 640C would prohibit provision of gender transition procedures, including surgery or medication, through the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP).”
STARRS calls on Congress to use both the power of the Constitution and the power of the purse to investigate, defund, and revoke transgender policies that harm readiness and morale.
