Jakob “Jake” Stronko
Yet another “radical” has appeared on the woke horizon of the HQ USAF. His name is Jakob Stronko who currently serves as Country Director for the Secretary of the Air Force, International Affairs since April 2023. He is the husband of Tyler Cherry, newly appointed White House Associate Communications Director. In addition to their affiliation with governmental agencies in the Washington, DC area, both individuals are active members of and well known to the local DC LBGTQAI+ (“queer”) community.
As a Country Director in the Regional Affairs Directorate within SAF/IA, Mr Stronko is responsible for providing country-level political-military expertise to support strategic and operational decision-making. He additionally oversees acquisition, sustainment, and training for partner nation capability and capacity development.
Mr. Stronko has held a number of governmental positions in the greater Washington, DC area over the course of the last 10 years. Prior to his current position, he previously served as Foreign Military Service Case Manager for the Naval Sea Systems Command from Nov 2019 to April 2023. In June 2019, he was briefly employed by Whitney, Bradley & Brown as the Canada Deputy County Manager. Prior to that position he served a year as a Junior Analyst for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology & Logistics and as a Consultant, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology & Logistics before spending two years from March 2017 to June 2019 as a Foreign Military Service Acquisition Analyst for CACI International, Inc.
Mr. Stronko received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Government from William and Mary University in 2014. During his time at William and Mary, he was a Congressional Affairs Intern with the U.S. Geological Survey in 2013. In 2014 he was a Russian Studies and Critical Threats Project Intern for the nonpartisan public policy research institute, American Enterprise Institute, followed by serving as a Research Assistant for McAleese & Associates which provides understanding of DoD’s priorities, budgets, and programmatic issues. From 2009-2011, his LinkedIn account lists attendance at the US Air Force Academy with a major in Foreign Area Studies. His photo was found in a 2010 USAFA yearbook. He is conversant in both English and Russian.
Jakob and Tyler were married in 2022 in front of approximately 100 guests at the home of a friend in DC. The home was decorated for the wedding with nearly 400 disco balls and love letters they had written to each other. Secretary of the Interior, Deb Haaland, officiated as a private citizen, not as part of her public office. Tyler served as the Department of the Interior Press Secretary prior to his current appointment as White House Communication Specialist and previously with left-wing Media Matters.
