Marine Corps Training—Involuntarily Celibate Men Could Be ‘Insider Threats’ Against Military

Far-left ideologues are training Pentagon officials to be on the lookout for violence from single men who don’t have sex, according to video uncovered by Restoration News.

On Sept. 9, DEI instructor Brian Van Brunt and colleagues were hired by U.S. Marine Corps Headquarters at the Pentagon to conduct training on the perceived risks of incel (involuntary celibacy) violence.

Restoration News obtained a copy of the full 1 hour 45-minute training video, and we have highlighted some of the worst content below.

Identifying “Hardline Misogyny” in the Marine Corps

On Aug. 19, 2025, Pentagon policy development staffer Dan Schepers sent an email asking “all personnel” to attend “this important workshop” on incel violence. He also promoted the training on his LinkedIn page.

The training opened with one of the workshop instructors, Chris Usher, claiming the topic of incel violence “ties into what is going on in America right now with mass shootings and stuff.” The instructors define the term incel/involuntary celibate as:

“[A] range of thinking and behaviors from social awkwardness and difficulty forming connections with women to hardline misogyny and active threats to punish them for rejecting the person’s attempts at dating.”

One of the handouts provided in the workshop defines “subsets of incels,” including “Baldcel,” Currycel,” “Gymcel,” etc.

Usher further suggested—without evidence—that the Marine Corps may be recruiting people prone to sudden violence, saying: Low military recruitment could lead to a “higher percentage of these folks to want to seek that machoism.”

Another instructor, Chris Taylor, said that “pick-up culture” and “men’s rights activism” are common incel traits. Lead instructor Van Brunt similarly offered an incel indoctrination rubric to identify Marines prone to incel violence if they have the following traits:

• • Deny systematic oppression and white privilege
  • Able to moderate disappointment by trying harder
  • Driven to be the center of attention and acknowledged for their unique place in the world
  • Occasional posts or comments that have a shaming or negative quality towards women, men, or society
  • Prefer to see women in certain roles

Van Brunt claimed there is an overlap between “white supremacy” and inceldom because men look at beauty in a white Eurocentric way. He added:

“The core problem with incel philosophy is they look at external beauty . . . any sexual diversity, anything related to other sexual orientations beyond heterosexual is seen as less than or not good.”

Far-Left Instructors

Van Brunt, who describes himself as “a big fan of the black lives matter movement,” currently works as the Institutional Equity and Title VI Coordinator within the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action/Title IX at Vassar College, specializing in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). He teaches “microaggression awareness to folks in higher education to help us all become more aware of those unconscious things we say that are offensive to marginalized populations.”

Van Brunt pushes leftist activism on his social media, promoting the “No Kings” symbol and advocating for “trans rights.” He’s also the author of How to Engage in Difficult Conversations on Identity, Race, and Politics in Higher Education: A Practical Guide for Faculty.

On his personal blog, the DEI advocate wrote why he bristles when people thank military members for their service:

“My politics are not in favor of a hawkish U.S. and more fall into that category of people who cite the problems we could solve with just 10% of what we spend on the military.

And it doesn’t help there is a general adoration in our society to the military from reserved parking spaces outside of supermarkets . . . to the way airports and go out of their way (particularly in military base towns) to offer perks to those who have served.”

He goes onto further criticize military service by adding:

“I am one of the people who say “Thank you for your service” and then grumble things like “and enjoy your mortgage benefits, college waivers and reverence from a society because you couldn’t think of any other good options when adulthood choices.”

His past Facebook cover photos mock Jesus’ Last Supper and he posted this about Christian churches.

Van Bunt’s partner in the training, Chris Taylor, specializes in instructing people about “toxic masculinity.” He co-authored Men and Masculinities, a book that provides “college men opportunities to understand their power, privilege, and identity” including so-called “trans men.” It helps young men understand why “they have been socialized around their gender identity . . . and sense of masculinity.” Taylor has no experience in the military and is a career educator.

Trump Officials Must Take Action—Now

One workshop attendee was Sandra DeBaene, a sexual assault response coordinator for the Marine Corps. She claimed the topic is “something I absolutely hope we can incorporate in our training more”—an indication this training could be pushed further if Marine Corps leadership doesn’t take action to stop this nonsense.

This workshop was made-up garbage for leftist contractors to profit off the American taxpayer and attempt to indoctrinate the military. It had nothing to do with the Marine Corps or preparing Marines to battle the enemy.

The Marine Corps has historically rejected woke DEI narratives adopted by other services. Hopefully, this situation is rare and not a symbol of things yet to come.

Those responsible for scheduling and pushing this training onto America’s warriors must be immediately removed from their jobs.

USMC leadership and the defense department should condemn this rhetoric and cancel any future trainings with these leftist contractors or any others pushing an agenda.
