Army officer, now reinstated over Covid shot stance, recalls journey from ‘threat’ to hero

By J.M. Phelps  |  American Family News

On June 26, 2023, former 1st Lieutenant Mark Bashaw was discharged from the Army. The entomologist was booted after being convicted in a 2022 court-martial for refusing to comply with the illegal COVID-19 shot mandate, testing, and masking protocols.

In the previous year, Bashaw had begun to communicate “danger signals” identified in the CDC’s Vaccine Adverse Event Database, known as VAERS, to his superiors.

He also pointed out information from the Defense Medical Epidemiological Database (DMED) in 2022, emphasizing a staggering 1,100% rise in adverse events linked to viral vaccines.

In essence, he was discharged from the Army for providing protected communications to his chain of command at the Defense Centers Public Health-Aberdeen, formerly known as Army Public Health Center.

For going against the narrative that the shots were safe and effective, he was even labeled an “insider threat.”

“I raised concerns through proper channels, only to face a court-martial, exclusion from Army facilities, and wrongful discharge in 2023,” Bashaw told American Family News. “Those who enforced these illegal orders, breaking our sacred Oath, must be held accountable to restore trust in our ranks.”

After a persistent effort to contest the Army’s decision to discharge him in the years that followed, President Donald Trump rightfully pardoned Bashaw. That was announced on X on May 28.

But that’s not where this story ends. Bashaw continued to encounter considerable obstacles from the Army Board for Correction of Military Records, or ARCMR, while seeking reinstatement.

However, according the announcement on his Freedom Fighter 1776 blog, “truth and justice” have prevailed.

He wrote, “On the day after Constitution Day, September 18, 2025—honoring the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787—justice has prevailed.”

He explained that full relief was granted by ABCMR on September 17, correcting his record, restoring his commission, and allowing for his reinstatement as an officer in the U.S. Army.

A duty to defend the truth

“This reinstatement is a victory for truth and the Constitution we swear to protect,” Bashaw told American Family News. “As a Preventive Medicine Officer, my mission was to ensure the health and readiness of our soldiers, but unlawful COVID-19 mandates—forced shots, tests, and masks—threatened their well-being.”

Bashaw said his faith sustained him through his trials, pointing to Isaiah 40:31 (NIV): “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.”  For him, “This decision shows that duty and integrity can triumph over adversity,” he said.

Bashaw not only credits divine guidance for his success, but also the support of key allies. “I’m forever grateful to President Trump for his pardon, Honorable Pete Hegseth for his leadership, my family’s unwavering love, and advocates like Senator Ron Johnson’s team and the Truth for Health Foundation,” he said.

“Their support kept me focused on the mission, reminding me to ‘stand firm, and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring’ (2 Chronicles 20:17),” he said.

“This victory calls us to uphold our military’s values—loyalty, duty, and honor—ensuring our forces remain true to the Constitution,” Bashaw offered. “Let us move forward with faith, committed to protecting our Nation and its defenders.”
