STARRS Chairman of the Board
General Lyles, once again there has been a huge amount of material worth sharing with DACODAI this week–but being respectful of your time, I have boiled it down to only two articles (and a video or two) to share, with the sincere hope you, in turn, will share with the rest of your committee.
This first one you may have seen since you live in the DC area and may read the Washington Times:
DEI is self-centered and childish, grounded in premise of ‘us against them’
I just love the quote from the article of Apostle Paul:
“Adult identity isn’t found in race or gender, personal grievances, or narcissistic infatuations. As the Apostle Paul tells us, “We are neither Jew nor Greek, male nor female, slave nor free.” We are human beings, and selfless unity rather than self-centered demands.”
That is the American dream, which many (a growing number, thankfully) believe is being destroyed by the identity politics of today—to include all the CRT/DEI programs and plans extremists have put in place throughout our institutions with the intent to divide.
That is not just “us” saying that—this is what we are being told by a huge majority of military members experiencing the training/indoctrination.
As former NYT editor has schooled us: the words “diversity” “equity” and “inclusion” have changed in their meaning—they are no longer the nice sounding words conveying what they once meant.
Instead, “they are now a metaphor” for an “ideological rot” that has “taken root at the most important institutions in American life.”
Unfortunately, one of those institutions is the US military.
May have shared this one before? If I have, here is yet another one from Bari:
The words and teachings of DEI and their related actions are “divisive, demeaning, demoralizing and create resentment” we are told by those in uniform.
Based on this first hand input, STARRS is hopeful your committee will incorporate their thoughts into your recommendations to Secretary Austin. It is not what he is expecting, we know–but it is grounded in fact.
The second article is from one of your former NWC professors who went on to be the Senior Policy Advisor to the CSAF and the CJCS.
Sowing The Wind, Part 3: Newspeak And DEI
In this article, Dr Kass does an excellent job of describing just how much of this ideological movement we are facing today was forecast by George Orwell in his book “1984.”
I double checked with Lani to ensure she was OK with me sending since you are mentioned (even though it is published)–she said “I stand by every word.”
If the goal of DACODAI is to extend an outreach of sorts about the military to different segments of our society, STARRS would love to assist with some ideas on how best to do this.
If the purpose is, however, to establish “a junior officer corps that reflects the diversity of the enlisted ranks” as indicated on one of your recommendation slides, please know STARRS will continue to stand strong against the discriminatory actions that have to currently take place to try and make that goal become a reality.
Why?
Because it is the exact extreme opposite of choosing the very best to lead our military—we want the military to always choose the very best leaders (just like I want my beloved New England Patriots to always choose the very best players—regardless of skin color, ethnic background, or certainly gender in their case.)
Defending our nation, I would suggest, is tremendously more important than winning a football game—where we all know the fans would not stand for anything but the best effort to ensure we had the very best team.
National Security is not a game. I would hope DACODAI committee members would want the same.
VR, Rod
PS: To those that have been told or wrongly believe that STARRS spends too much time criticizing USAFA and not enough time communicating with “Washington,” this is probably my fifth email in a series hopefully giving a Diversity and Inclusion Committee set up by the SECDEF to advise on “diversity” issues a different perspective—a perspective we believe represents the majority of those in uniform. This is “Washington.” There is not one mention of USAFA in my email–although I will share with you that USAFA cadets tell us for example—what I have written above represents at least 80% of the cadet wing.
