CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

Denouncing the horrors of socialism.

Whereas socialist ideology necessitates a concentration of power that has, time and time again, collapsed into communist regimes, totalitarian rule, and brutal dictatorships;

Whereas socialism has repeatedly led to famine and mass murders, and the killing of over 100,000,000 people worldwide;

Whereas many of the greatest crimes in history were committed by socialist ideologues, including Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Fidel Castro, Pol Pot, Kim Jong Il, Kim Jong Un, Daniel Ortega, Hugo Chavez, and Nicolás Maduro;

Whereas tens of millions died in the Bolshevik Revolution, at least 10,000,000 people were sent to the gulags in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and millions more starved in the Terror-Famine (Holodomor) in Ukraine;

Whereas between 15,000,000 and 55,000,000 people starved to death in the wake of famine and devastation caused by the Great Leap Forward in China;

Whereas the socialist experiment in Cambodia led to the killing fields in which over a million people were gruesomely murdered;

Whereas up to 3,500,000 people have starved in North Korea, dividing a land of freedom from a land of destitution;

Whereas the Castro regime in Cuba expropriated the land of Cuban farmers and the businesses of Cuban entrepreneurs, stealing their possessions and their livelihoods, and exiling millions with nothing but the clothes on their backs;

Whereas the implementation of socialism in Venezuela has turned a once-prosperous country into a failed State with the highest rate of inflation in the world;

Whereas President Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence, wrote, “To take from one, because it is thought that his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to every one of a free exercise of his industry, and the fruits acquired by it”;

Whereas President James Madison, the “Father of the Constitution”, wrote that it “is not a just government, nor is property secure under it, where the property which a man has in his personal safety and personal liberty, is violated by arbitrary seizures of one class of citizens for the service of the rest”; and

Whereas the United States was founded on the belief in the sanctity of the individual, to which the collectivistic system of socialism in all of its forms is fundamentally and necessarily opposed: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That Congress denounces socialism in all its forms, and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States.

House Passes Rep. Salazar’s Resolution Denouncing the Horrors of Socialism (Press Release)

Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar’s (FL-27) resolution denouncing the horrors of socialism, H. Con. Res. 58, has passed the House of Representatives, in a strong 285–98 vote, reaffirming that socialist policies are fundamentally incompatible with America’s founding principles.

The resolution outlines some of the most brutal crimes committed by socialist regimes in the Soviet Union, China, Cambodia, North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela, demonstrating that wherever socialism has taken root, the results have been the same: famine, repression, death, economic ruin, and the loss of human freedom.

“Socialism is a lie. It has never delivered justice or equality, only fear, censorship, poverty, and broken nations. I represent thousands of families who fled their homelands because socialist regimes promised paradise and delivered prisons,” said Rep. Salazar. “Today, the House is making it clear: we will not allow socialism’s failed ideology to take root in the United States.”

“The Mamdani socialist agenda is seeping into our country like poison. Republicans won’t let it take root,” Chairwoman McClain said. “Congresswoman Salazar knows that socialism destroys the freedoms of all who suffer under its thumb. As a Cuban-American and daughter of exiles, she’s experienced the horrific consequences the radical left-wing Democrats keep trying to import. We will never bow to socialism. Republicans and President Trump will defend freedom, liberty, and the American way with everything we have.”

“I commend Congresswoman Salazar’s resolution which articulates America’s unwavering stance in denouncing socialism in all forms and rejects its insidious policies from encroaching our nation” said House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill. “The contrast between the successful policies of market capitalism and socialism could not be starker, and her resolution reaffirms the United States’ fight against an ideology that has brought suffering and despair to millions across the globe.”

A companion resolution in the Senate was introduced by Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), who praised the House vote and reaffirmed the need to confront this dangerous ideology at home and abroad:

“I am glad to see the House pass our resolution condemning Socialism as the failed ideology it is — it has destroyed countries, crushed economies, and robbed millions of their basic human rights, ” said Senator Rick Scott. “Just look at Cuba and Venezuela or talk to any of the thousands of families in my state of Florida who fled those regimes after evil dictators stripped them of every opportunity. Time and time again, socialism has led to the same, inevitable outcomes: misery, poverty, and oppression. It’s despicable to see far-left radicals villainizing capitalism – a system that has helped billions of American achieve their dreams – and try to tear down our country and rebuild it in their woke, radical image through socialist policies. The United States was built on individual freedoms and opportunities, and the right of every individual to pursue the American Dream despite coming from nothing, just like I did. Our resolution is a stark reminder for the far-left: socialism is a failure and Americans will always reject it.”

H. Con. Res. 58 cites more than 100 million deaths at the hands of socialist governments, including millions killed in the Soviet gulags and Holodomor, tens of millions starved during China’s Great Leap Forward, over a million murdered by the Khmer Rouge, mass starvation in North Korea, brutal repression in Cuba, and Venezuela’s collapse into tyranny and poverty.

By passing Rep. Salazar’s resolution, the House affirms a simple truth:

The United States rejects socialism’s false promises and stands firmly for liberty, human dignity, and individual rights.

The House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted in favor of a resolution condemning socialism Friday morning, with several Democrats crossing the aisle to rebuke “socialist policies” in the U.S. following Zohran Mamdani’s recent election as the mayor-elect of New York City.

Eighty-six Democrats joined Republicans in supporting the measure in a 285-98 vote. Two members, Rep. Deborah Ross, D-Pa., and Rep. Janelle Bynum, D-Ore., voted present.

Notably, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y. — who endorsed Mamdani just days before the mayoral election — also voted in favor of the measure. . . . (read more)
